Kriemhild Dairy is intimately connected with Red Gate farm, one of our sole grass fed milk suppliers. Farmers Bruce and Nancy Rivington own Kriemhild, and operate Red Gate Farm .
When the Rivington Family moved from their dairy farm in Ontario, Canada to New York, they were on a clear-cut mission: to graze. The Rivingtons wanted to increase the amount their cows could graze, and ultimately switch to seasonal dairying for human and herd wellbeing. In 2000, the Rivington Family purchased Red Gate Farm in Hamilton, right down the road from the creamery. |
Nearly 10 years later, Kriemhild dairy was formed. The name comes from the original herd of holstein-friesian cattle that were born, raised and registered in the United States, just a few short miles from our Creamery. The herd was raised by Gerrit Smith Miller, grandson of the famous abolitionist, Gerrit Miller in Peterboro, NY. His herd is historically recognized for achieving modern milk production volume from grass grazed cows almost 100 years ago.
Originally we worked with a co-packer in two different plants here in Central New York to package butter until our own plant was established in late 2019. Currently, all of our products are made and packaged in our plant with the exception of Crème Fraîche which is still being packaged at Sunrise Dairy, located in Norwich, NY.
At this moment, around 300 cows from local farms work hard to provide nutrient rich grass fed milk, for our products.
